Our Start
Our organization falls under the non-statutory sector that represents people from
diverse ethnic backgrounds to highlight their needs and interests. It strives to
promote respect and harmony in order to build a better and cohesive multi-cultural
society. The forum started its journey in March 2002 when the local ‘Crime &
Disorder Reduction Partnership’ and Police representatives called a meeting. The
local statutory and non-statutory agencies got together in that meeting to look
at racism and other multicultural issues. This was the beginning of ‘Barrow Multicultural
Community Forum’ It has since become constituted, has obtained charitable status
and is ‘Furness Multicultural Community Forum’. It works closely with Multicultural
Community Centre and its staff, to further its aims.
