Furness Multicultural Community Forum is a registered charity with the aim of promoting racial harmony in Furness for the benefit of the public, by the provision of a local drop-in centre to offer advice and support and by any other charitable means as the trustees from time to time determine. The Furness Multi-Cultural Community Forum works for the benefit of the Furness Peninsula (including the areas of Barrow Borough, Ulverston, High and Low Furness) Our projects include BME YP research, Week with a difference 2007, Young people’s Cultural Exchange activities, Kick Racism Out 2006 and 2007 – to name just a few. We are proud of all these achievements.

Furness International Festival of Culture

FIFC

2nd and 3rd August 2008
at Forum28 in Barrow-in-Furness

This festival is preceded by the International Week in local schools whereby six Barrow schools will be adopting a country during the week beginning 23rd June 2008. The school children will be learning about these countries and will be visited by people from these countries who now live and work in this area. Many of them are members of the Multicultural Women’s Network.

As part of the Furness International Festival of Culture 2008, Barrow Excellence Cluster Partnership is supported by Furness Multicultural Community Forum in running the International Week in Schools.

Our members say:

‘To fear people because they are different is down to ignorance. A key part of our work is to educate people so that everyone coming to this area feels comfortable and safe and can become part of the greater community of Furness...' (Bob Qazi, Chairman)

Winner of the national Connecting Communities Award

Crystal Hearts
Rewarding examples of
outstanding work

The Forum received its first national award last year. We received the Crystal Hearts Award – a POPs Criminal Justice Award. This is an award from a national charity that works in Her Majesty’s Prisons and reflects the hard work done with the staff at Haverigg Prison. The Forum’s contribution was recognized by the Governor Clive Chatterton as being worthy of nomination for the award. This is a huge achievement for us and one which we are all proud of.
